De Stijl
Scanned from the iconic Ikea Bekvam stool. De Stijl is an exercise in reductive modularity, with each iteration scaled slightly smaller in a nod to Brancusi and the Endless Column.
Printed in bold primary colors and titled De Stijl this piece references the eponymous Dutch art and design movement founded in 1917 in Amsterdam. De Stijl or "The Style" was also known as neoplasticism. Industrial approaches to furniture pioneered by designers like Gerrit Reitveld are now commonplace in homes all over the world thanks to brands like Ikea.
The 3D printed elements composing De Stijl display surface tessellation to great effect creating an undulating interplay of light and shadow.
