Points In Space
Points In Space are part of a series of images I am making that collapse photographic source material and observed drawings together into a continuous matrix of points. I make these drawings to think about the relationship between the eye and the aperture of the camera.
These images probe differences between the picture plane and the experience of seeing spatially. I begin each drawing on a bus or a train traveling from point to point. I use the motif of the window as an aperture or passageway into another memory or adjacent experience. The scenes seen through these openings are drawn from life, from photographs or from 3D scans.
Each drawing is rendered in a pointillist fashion using a limited range of pigmented ink to develop surface and depth through tone, color, proximity and density of dots. Clusters of points break up the continuous tone of the scene to produce images that are dreamlike and ephemeral.
