Art Loop Open
My video collaboration with Jacob C. Hammes, Translations, has been selected for the inaugural Art Loop Open here in Chicago. Our piece is a four minute digital video with audio that was originally produced for Three Walls experimental animation series “Chasing Two Rabbits.” It has since been exhibited at the Next Art Fair in Chicago in May and published online by Drunken Boat in September.
Art Loop Open launches this Friday, the 15th of October with a gala event from 5 – 8pm hosted by each of the venues throughout the downtown area. Translations is exhibited in the lobby of the Hard Rock Hotel located at 230 N. Michigan. Members of the public are invited to view the all the work in the Art Loop Open from October 15th – 21st and vote on their favorite pieces. If successful our piece will then go forward to the next round of voting from October 22nd – 29th.

About the artwork:
Contained within our unique animal identity is a strong desire to witness and experience symmetry, a desire informed by an overwhelming lack of its immediate presence in our waking lives. Symmetry and uniformity are present in the video collaboration between Burtonwood and Hammes, abstracted in terms of geometry and pure tones. Folding cubes and squares are accompanied by modulated, warbling sine waves and occasional bursts of distorted guttural voices, suggesting a human presence in a world of pure geometric and sonic abstraction.
