Ok i’m starting to get a bit bored posting these, but on the flip side i want to show the progression in thinking, the structures here become more reductive, and i try to use more visual “weight” or mass to epitomise the “burden” on the dwellings. plus u got more detail and overall workedness….. these drawings led to a whole bunch of prints which i’ll start posting soon….
I love the obsessive quality in these marks and forms. When the whole world turns green this is how all the contraptions: solar panels, windmills, etc. will make our cities look…I don’t envision we’ll need fewer buildings but a lot more to solve our environmental problems. Plus we’ll live closer together because we won’t have gas and enough chargers for electric cars to travel far!
These look hastily built and unstable. Like I imagine our future, maybe it’s after the coasts flood and we have to hurriedly build dwellings for everyone in the center of the country!

thanks for the ideas, i think the medium is ball poaint pen (biro) on paper, then brown i think comes from the scanning in. i should probably color correct them. when i was making this work i think the driving force was to make the images as visually overwhelming as possible. this one in particular i was interested in detaching segments from the “bridge” and creating these symbols that could be deployed / cloned / repeated as needed and placed in the drawing like a module or something. but i think you’re right about the flood or the energy demand, the future will not look like Rem Koolhaus or Gehry everywhere, once business truly wakes up to the supply side issues and once the demand for alternative energy becomes insistent then we;ll have solar panels popping up like satellite dishes.
